More than 16,000 children have received Medical Care from
Hospital María, Especialidades Pediátricas
The Fundación Amigos del Hospital María, presented today to the government authorities and civil society, its first Accountability report for 2015. The above, as part of its responsibility to offer a report on the services provided and the management carried out, in order to guarantee transparency in the management of funds, the proper use of resources and quality care for patients.
In the presentation of the report, the authorities of the Friends of the Hospital Foundation highlighted the work carried out based on the quality and warmth of comprehensive care, guaranteeing the protection and respect of the rights of the children who attend the Hospital daily María, Pediatric Specialties (HMEP), and who are always accompanied by their parents making the little ones feel at home, taking care of their emotional health; favoring the above, in the monitoring and recovery process.
Two years after the opening of the first referral children’s hospital in Honduras with highly specialized care, it was reported that 10 specialties (Cardiology, Dermatology, Immunology and Allergy, Endocrinology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Outpatient Surgery and Anesthesiology) and eight operating rooms; as well as support services in the area of Psychology, Nutrition, Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy, among others.
Currently, more than 16 thousand patients have been treated, more than 229 thousand treatments have been offered and 1,166 surgeries have been performed, which include three kidney transplants (in conjunction with the University School Hospital), 96 heart surgeries (reaching 100 this Friday) , six neurosurgeries so far this year and other procedures. In support of local programs, six international medical brigades have been carried out, treating cleft lip and palate, cardiac catheterizations, complex urological surgeries, and open heart surgeries. HMEP is the first institution in the public network to register patients online, this measurement is vital to carry out analyzes, planning and projections for the benefit of patients in future care.
As of 2015, the State allocated 166 million Lempiras per year to partially support the operation and administration of the HMEP.
This same day the FAHM is signing a Trust Agreement with BAC Honduras, in order to administer the funds received derived from the management agreement, as part of the effective and transparent management. It is noteworthy that the market cost of a contract of this nature is around xx% of the total administered and on this occasion BAC Honduras, as part of its Social Responsibility, offers it free of charge to HMEP.
The HMEP is a project funded by the María Foundation, construction began in October 2000 and concluded in April 2004. In January 2002, the María Foundation donated this hospital to the Government of the Republic under a Deed of Donation. In November 2004 the Fundación Amigos del Hospital María (FAHM) was established and on October 20, 2005, through Decree No. 268-2005, the Administration and Management Agreement of Hospital María, Pediatric Specialties was approved; signed between the Ministry of Health and the Fundación Amigos del Hospital María. In which the Foundation’s objective is the management and integral administration of the services of Hospital María, Pediatric Specialties. This management model will help the administration to be carried out efficiently, with transparency and streamlining of procedures.
