Fundación Amigos del Hospital María presents Government Authorities and Civil Society, and different sectors of the country Accountability Report

Tegucigalpa, June 27, 2017. The Friends of Hospital María Foundation (FAHM), today presented to the government authorities and civil society, its Accountability report for the year 2016. As of 2015, the State allocated 166 million of Lempiras per year to partially support the operation and administration of Hospital María, Especialidades Pediátricas (HMEP).

The decentralized operation of HMEP directly involves the population assuming co-responsibility for their own well-being and that of their community, oriented towards access to health services provided with quality and efficiency; focused on gender equality, risk management, and quality results management.

In this report, the FAHM authorities highlighted the work carried out based on the quality and warmth of comprehensive care. Guaranteeing the protection and respect of the rights of the patients who attend the María Hospital daily accompanied by their parents.

The HMEP has made the recovery journey of its patients more bearable, taking care not only of their physical health, but also of their emotional health through complementary activities developed by our committed work team and volunteers, thus favoring the follow-up and recovery process.

A few months after opening three years, it was reported on the authorization of 11 specialties (Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology (Hemodynamics), Dermatology, Immunology and Allergy, Endocrinology, Neurology, Gastroenterology, Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, Nephrology, Cardiovascular Surgery and Pediatric Surgery and Urological), in addition eight operating rooms, an angiography room; support services in the area of Psychology, Nutrition, Imaging, Laboratory, Pharmacy, among others.

Particularly, since 2016, the transfer of the Nephrology specialty from the Hospital Escuela Universitario (HEU) to the HMEP stands out, resulting in 2,428 peritoneal dialysis sessions and 3,078 hemodialysis sessions.

Currently, more than 21 thousand patients have been treated, more than 398 thousand services have been offered that include external consultation and support services. More than 2,300 surgical procedures have been performed, including 808 Pediatric Surgeries and Complex Urological Surgeries, 206 Heart Surgeries, 107 Catheterizations, eight kidney transplants, 41 neurosurgeries, among other procedures.

Hospital María, Especialidades Pediátricas recognizes the invaluable support to the First Lady, the Ministry of Health and other public institutions that have contributed decisively to a comprehensive management and administration, exemplary and benchmark in the Central American region.

Being then in its second stage of opening, the first Lady of the Nation, delivers the necessary equipment for optimal care of the HMEP patients, thus ratifying its commitment to improving the quality of life of Honduran children.

After more than 10 years of being closed, President Hernández and the First Lady of the Nation, Attorney Ana García de Hernández, proposed to open it, and it is thus, that on September 10, 2014 the necessary resources are assigned to its opening, planning its enablement in stages.

It should be noted that the care and procedures have been expeditious due to the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in the hospital area, through the systematization of patient management processes.
