Smiles That Change Lives: 34 Children Received Care at the Dental Outreach Clinic

Oral health is a fundamental part of our young patients’ well-being. A new Pediatric Dentistry Brigade was made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of the team at Hospital María, Especialidades Pediátricas, Fundación María, and UNITEC dental students, with support from World Pediatrics, which ensured the safe transportation of patients and their families.

This important partnership made it possible to provide comprehensive care to 34 children, who received evaluations, treatment, and guidance on oral health care at the UNITEC University Dental Clinic.

During the event, cases of dental caries and gingivitis were the most commonly identified conditions, so preventive and restorative procedures were performed, including the application of sealants and fluoride, scaling, restorations, tooth extractions, and oral health education, all of which helped improve each patient’s quality of life.

In addition to addressing immediate needs, the brigade made it possible to continue treatments that had already begun, schedule follow-up appointments, and refer patients who require additional procedures. This follow-up is especially important for children who need to complete their dental treatment before undergoing other medical procedures, such as heart surgery.
